YouTube is testing free channel membership for Premium users.

Some users received an option to join an YouTube channel of their choice for free.

YouTube premium was introduced in 2014 which was known as YouTube Red at the time of launch and later renamed as YouTube premium, it is a subscription offered to YouTube users for $11.99 at which they will get perks like Ad-free streaming, free subscription to Google Play Music and YouTube Music, Background playback, offline viewing and YouTube originals.

Some premium users on YouTube community thread said that they have received options to become a member of any one channel of their choice for free(only up to the value of $5.00), some users also noted that they were not able to get the free membership even after trying and some said the option was disappeared after some time, which shows that YouTube is maybe trying to test this feature.

Being  a member to a YouTube channel will let you access member only videos, posts and live chats, channel emojis in the comments, a membership badge, access to creator perks(if offered). It will cost $4.99 to join a channel and there will be different levels of membership.

Twitch offers similar free membership perks to Amazon Prime users, YouTube has being trying to be a competition for Twitch, YouTube has offered popular streamers on Twitch to come to YouTube and also making deals to stream popular E-sport events on YouTube, this free membership can also be viewed as YouTube trying to be new streaming platform for gamers, memberships to channels is very popular in gaming community.

When you join as a member in a channel the creator will get 70% of the subscription of the fee after the local taxes and other fee, this will also help YouTube to increase it's Premium subscriptions as users always want to help their favorite creators especially if they can do it for free.

YouTube premium feature was currently available in 81 countries, No comment from YouTube on this topic till now. we don't know whether YouTube will finally launch this feature or simply leave it in the testing phase.
