Lt. Col. Robin Ochoa told Military.com "It is considered a cyber threat, We do not allow it on government phones." The US-Army soldiers were told not to use Tik-Tok in their government owned phones in the fear of security risk. Army recruiters have used the app before to recruit soldiers.

Tik Tok is owned by the Beijing based company ByteDance, in last month the company has faced allegations of violating child privacy laws and the collection of data of young users in a Class Action Complaint filed in one of the United States district courts.

The soldiers were advised to not use the app on all the government owned phones and uninstall if the app was already on their phones, Defense Department Cyber Awareness has released a message on Dec 16, 2019 stating that "Tik Tok as having potential security risks associated with its use."

Anyway the soldiers can use the app on their personal phones but are advised to proceed with caution if in case they receive any random and unfamiliar text messages.

Some Chinese companies have faced similar type of allegations about being a security threat to united States of America, earlier this year Trump has put restrictions to American companies from working with Huawei products which resulted in Google not allowing Hauwei to use it's apps and playstore on their new products and also resulted in slow pace of Huawei's 5g tests in USA.
