Seems like the decision to make Microsoft Edge a Chrome-based browser has proved to be a good idea, as of March 2020, Microsoft Edge has surpassed Mozilla Firefox to become the 2nd most popular web browser with an increased market share of 7.68%, Firefox, on the other hand, has lost some of its market share since March 2019 which stood at 7.53%.

As usual, Chrome will still be the most popular web browser with a massive 68.5% market share as of March 2020, it was way ahead of other browsers, in March 2019, Microsoft Edge has only 5.20% of market share but after Microsoft has released a new Edge version in early 2020 which was based on Chromium open source project.

Microsoft has been working on a Chrome-based browser for quite a while before the release, the Edge browser has attracted new users and increased market share for Microsoft Edge, Edge browser is only compatible in Windows 10 and it comes as a default for the windows 10 operating system.

So, as the Windows 10 market share increases it will also result in the increase of the market share of Edge browser, Google Chrome is popular for its features and stability, and there are a vast variety of extensions in Chrome web store that increases the usability of the browser, no that Edge can also support all those extensions many users can switch to Edge.

As of March 2020, the top five browsers that occupy the major market share of web browsers are,

Google Chrome         68.50%
Microsoft Edge         7.59%
Mozilla Firefox         7.19%
Internet Explorer 11 5.60%
Safari                                 3.62%
