It was already known that Microsoft has stopped the support for Windows 7 operating system by stopping security updates to the users who are still using the classic Windows 7, Microsoft already stopped sending feature updates to Windows 7 long back on Jan 13 2015 but continued to send security updates to the old operating system.

It's been 10 years since Microsoft launched Windows 7 operating system on  July 22, 2009 and it continued to be the favorite windows version for many, Microsoft announced beforehand that it will stop sending security updates to Windows 7 starting from Jan 14, 2020 but many people and organisations have continued to use the operating system. Microsoft will let you upgrade to Windows 10 for free if you have a licence key of Windows 7 you're currently using, if you don't have any key  you can still upgrade to Windows 10 but with limited features.

German government, majorly still using Windows 7 on it's government computers, they've failed to fully upgrade to the latest Windows version in time and after the lifetime of Windows 7 is over, most computers are on Windows 7, although Windows officially closed the update program for Windows 7 they will still send security updates to organisation and home users under the "Extended Security Update" program if they pay a certain amount, this program will release security updates for up to 3 years and the fee increases year by year.

Since it's a matter of government and security German government should pay for Microsoft for it to continue sending updates to their Windows 7 computers and the sum they have to pay Microsoft is no less amount, it is about $887,000 which is near to one million euros, 33,000 PCs are still running on old OS as of Jan 14 and there can be more because of the unreported data,

Konstantin von Notz, vice-president of the Green Group criticized that federal government is responsible that "IT systems of the chancellery, federal ministries and federal authorities are not adequately protected," and said "This is grossly negligent in view of the persistently high threat potential."

Federal government expects no problems currently after the support is over for Windows 7, according to Statcounter, 22% of the world PCs still run on Windows 7 which shows the popularity of Windows 7 but at the same time people and organisation should not make any more delay to move on to the next Windows versions as it is a matter of personal privacy and security.
