Issues in every new Windows 10 update have become common these days and Windows 10 users are prepared that they have to face at least a minor issue when updating their Windows 10. And, as usual, the latest feature update which Microsoft rolls out every six months, Windows 10 2004(May 2020) has disk management issues, reported by MS Poweruser.

Many users have reported that they are facing various problems in disk management, this lead to storage problems and sometimes even data loss. When users are trying to create new storage spaces, Windows 10 is displaying an error message which says"Cannot create new Storage Space. Error (0x00000057): The parameter is incorrect." This is preventing users from creating storage spaces.

But some users have been facing this kind of problem from months as some user has provided feedback 9 months ago that reads "Hard to explain in detail, but Storage Space management doesn’t work very well via the GUI. I am able to manage storage pools, spaces, physical disks, etc. fine through PowerShell, but the GUI encountered issues at every step. Maybe storage space management should be modernized to follow the Server Manager model where it just issues a PowerShell script that is visible to the end-user."

While for some users this issue has led to data loss as a user reported that his hard disk with 20TB parity storage was shown as raw and empty but storage spaces tools and PowerShell are showing it as healthy, he suggests that maybe ReFS partition is corrupted and emphasizes that he has to spend extra money on data recovery software and new eternal hard drives.

This also caused issues in the Windows de-fragment tool where the last scanned time and date are displayed wrong, sometimes even shown as never scanned which then prompts users to run the tool immediately to start the first scan which is probably not.

And a user raised a valid point by asking "And some problem in the version released to the public, what's the point of Insiders posting bugs?" It is clear that Microsoft has to work on monthly security updates for several versions of Windows and they will be on a tight schedule in releasing these updates but they have work more on fixing bugs in security and feature updates before they are released to the public.
