GSMA tried their best to conduct Mobile World Congress, despite their best efforts to conduct the biggest mobile show of the year, they've left with no chance but to cancel the show, because many people travel around the world to attend the show and that increases the chance of spread of coronavirus.
Even if they tried they're best to conduct the show anyway by taking enough precautions, Major companies cancelling their press conferences at MWC, so from GSMA point of view it doesn't worth to take all the effort when companies don't show the enthusiasm to participate in the show, After Sony and Amazon announced their withdrawal from MWC 2020, GSMA still tried to continued with the plans of conducting the show.
But as the due date for MWC 2020 closes in, many companies one after other continued to withdraw from MWC 2020, so GSMA released a statement to announce that they're cancelling the show for this year, they said it was because of the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, Mobile World Congress is a massive showdown of mobile technology, many companies announce new phones while others just showcase they're recently released new phones.
We will also see new improvements in mobile technology at MWC, but we have to miss the show for this year due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the affect of these virus had an massive impact on the tech world and it seems the impact will only continue to grow on the tech industry. The statement from GSMA reads,
"12 February 2020, Barcelona: Since the first edition of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2006, the GSMA has convened the industry, governments, ministers, policymakers, operators and industry leaders across the broader ecosystem. With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event.
So far Amazon , AT&T, Ericsson, Intel, MediaTek, Sprint, Vodafone, Facebook, Nokia, HMD, Vivo, LG, Telekom, Nvidia and Sony have withdrawn from MWC 2020 but some of these companies will hold separate events or press conferences to showcase their new mobiles and mobile technologies, now all of the companies that planned to participate in MWC 2020 will have to hold their own events. The Host City Parties respect and understand this decision. The GSMA and the Host City Parties will continue to be working in unison and supporting each other for MWC Barcelona 2021 and future editions. Our sympathies at this time are with those affected in China, and all around the world."
