Earlier this year Apple agreed to settle a lawsuit that was filed regarding the Batterygate issue back in 2017 where Apple reportedly slowed down the older iPhones with old batteries in order to push people to buy new phones, but Apple said that it did so to prevent the phones from shutting down suddenly and later apologized for not informing customers before releasing feature and gave a discount on battery replacements.

Apple agreed back in early 2020 to settle the lawsuit to "avoid burdensome and costly litigation" according to the U.S District Court for Northern California. Affected users can file a claim before October of this year to get $25 from Apple as a payment, the payment is forfeited if the claim is not filed before October.

The list of phones that were affected by Batterygate includes iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPhone 7, and couple others, this problem arrived with the update of iOS version 10.2.1 and also affected iPhones that ran on iOS 1.2. According to the U.S District Court, this settlement does not mean that Apple agreed that there is wrongdoing from there side.

This lawsuit was filed back in 2017, you can file for your settlement at this website, you can submit your filing through online or can mail a letter to be eligible for the payment. You can choose to exclude yourself from this lawsuit so that you can sue Apple separately on this issue if you want to.

The settlement for this lawsuit can cost up to $500 million for Apple, including payments for affected customers, and legal fee for lawyers, the amount received by the affected user can change depending on the number of claims filed through the website and mail.
