But now Teams will be tweaked a bit for it to be used at home, you can switch between work and a home account within the same app, Microsoft is not creating a new app separately for the home version, both versions will be integrated into the same app, and the preview version was just released for both iOS and Android users and will continue to roll out in the coming weeks, reported by The Verge.
The usage of chat apps and video calling apps has been more than ever in 2020 and the pandemic has only boosted the usage, many companies are tapping into home users, Google recently made it's Meet app available to very Gmail user irrespective of whether they're paying or not, Zoom's success during this pandemic has made many companies make their own user-friendly video conferencing apps for home users.
But Microsoft says that this more than just a chat app or a video calling app, in the interview with The Verge, Microsoft executive Liat Ben-Zur said that "I think if all you want to do is just have a chat with someone, there are plenty of great standalone chat apps," he said that this is for "people who find themselves coordinating lots of group type events."
You can share key information in your groups in the new Teams app which will be secured using end-to-end encryption, you can share your home WI-FI passwords or account information like your Amazon or Netflix account using two-factor authentication.
Ben-Zur says that they are fully committed to Skype too and said that "there are hundreds of millions of people using it," he said, "for folks that just want a very purpose-built app, Skype is a great solution, and we support it and encourage it."
