WhatsApp is working on a new feature that almost every other messaging app has already have, the new feature is destructive messages, which will be deleted automatically after the set period, WhatsApp has already tested this feature in previous betas but it was only limited to group chats.

Now WhatsApp is expanding this feature to individual chats, at the moment the feature is still in the testing phase and it will most likely appear in your stable WhatsApp version soon, Android Authority notes that this feature was already available in other messaging apps.

Other messaging apps have the option to enable this feature for individual messages but in WhatsApp, you have to enable this option in the profile section of who you want to send the self-destructive message which means every message you send to that person after enabling this feature will be a self-destructive message. To enable this feature, you have to click the profile of the person you want to send the message and then at the bottom, there will be an option to set a time for deleting messages.

After that, every message you send to that person will be deleted after the time expires, WABetaInfo first reported about this feature which appeared in the recently released 2.20.83/2.20.84 beta versions, previous beta-version  2.19.275 has first seen this feature but it was only limited to group chats.

After you opt to automatically delete the messages, you have to set a timer for it to delete the messages, you can choose from 1 hour to 1 year and in between, if you send a message that will be automatically deleted, a clock icon will appear next to the text of the message.
