Microsoft Surface Duo was scheduled to release at the end of this year during the holiday season, Microsoft showcased Surface Duo for the first time to the world in late 2019 during their event to reveal their new Surface line up of products. Microsoft took a different approach to the folding devices, instead of choosing a single screen folding in half, they took two screens and separated them with a hinge in between.
This approach will majorly help with multi-tasking and removes the doubt of the vulnerability of a folding device. Microsoft revealed the device a year ahead to give developers enough time to optimize their apps to work with Microsoft's folding device and fully use the potential of two screens.
Since the announcement of Surface Duo, many special features have been rumored to appear in Surface Duo. Microsoft is also working on Windows X, an OS build specially for folding devices, along with Surface Duo, Microsoft also announced Surface Neo, also a folding device but the bigger of the two.
A video posted by a Twitter user WalkingCat(@h0x0d) shows a new feature that may appear in Microsoft Surface Duo when it releases, in the video, the Surface Duo opens slightly to show you notifications on the edge of the screen, with this 'peek' feature, you can not only check your notifications but can also interact with them like dismissing them or opening them.

Normally folding phones come with an additional screen that will display time, date and notifications, but Microsoft doesn't offer any such additional screens in its folding devices, but users can't open the device fully just to check notifications or time, it takes time and some effort, it's not as easy as clicking the power button, so Microsoft may use this feature as an alternative.
