Apple is known for its marketing strategies and its product marketing, but an insight revealed by Knives Out director Rian Johnson, he told Vanity fair an interesting fact while explaining a scene from the movie, that Apple will only let good guys use its products in movies and TV series.

Many producers use in-film branding in their movies as a way to accumulate funds for their movie production or for free promotion of the movie by the brand or may do it in collaboration, likewise, when someone approaches Apple for in-film branding, seems like Apple will put one major rule to only let the good guys use their products.

MacRumors notes that "Apple is known for having strict rules about how devices are used, portrayed, and photographed. As part of its guidelines for using Apple trademarks and copyrights, for example, Apple says that Apple products should only be shown "in the best light, in a manner or context that reflects favorably on the Apple products and on Apple Inc."

Rian Johnson in the video says that for revealing this fact "every single filmmaker that has a bad guy in their movie that's supposed to be a secret wants to murder me right now," in fact, this can be a major spoiler for mystery movies that are to be released in the future with Apple branding in them.

Rian Johnson says that,
"Also another funny thing, I don't know if I should say this or not, not cause it's like lascivious or something, but because it's going to screw me on the next mystery movie that I write, but forget it, I'll say it. It's very interesting. Apple, they let you use iPhones in movies but, and this is very pivotal if you're ever watching a mystery movie, bad guys cannot have iPhones on camera. So, there you go, no, every single filmmaker that has a bad guy in their movie that's supposed to be a secret wants to murder me right now."

Many fans observed this before, for example, Mac rumors forum members noted that people have in the past pointed out that it's the good guys that use Apple products in TV shows in movies.
