Apple again took the spot of the world's most popular smartphone according to a new data by Omdia, a global technology research powerhouse, last year in the first quarter of 2019 iPhone XR is the World's most popular smartphone and this year that spot was taken by iPhone 11 with nearly 6 million more shipments than iPhone XR in Q1 2019.

The common thing between iPhone XR and iPhone 11 is their low price, Apple learned from its mistakes of overpricing its iPhones which affected the sales, So it kept the price points of its flagship lineup as low as possible, that's why Apple priced iPhone 11 $50 less than iPhone XR's original price even though iPhone 11 is a flagship and has more features than iPhone XR.

Due to these low prices more consumers are interested in buying a new iPhone every year. Omdia notes that fewer smartphone options to the customers are also the reason for the increased sales of iPhone 11, because of this Apple can focus on few products and make them better, and also the sales will not be distributed through several iPhones.

Apple has massively reduced the base prices of its flagships this time, its highest-end model iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at $1,099. In the top ten spots, Apple occupied 4 spots with iPhone 11, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro in 1st, 5th, 6th, and 8th spots respectively.

Omdia also notes that "Despite the devastating impact of coronavirus on consumer demand, Apple’s iPhone 11 shipments in the first quarter of 2020 exceeded its total for iPhone XR shipments during the first quarter of 2019." Apple shipped 19.5 million iPhones 11's during the first quarter of 2020.

And in the second spot is was Samsung with Galaxy A51 with 6.8 million shipments, Samsung continues to be in the second spot again, Samsung also has four of its smartphone models in the top 10 and the remaining two spots were occupied by Chinese OEM Xiaomi with Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro in the 3rd and 4th spot respectively.
