It is known that Microsoft announced last year that both newly announced Surface Duo and Surface Neo will be released in the holiday season of 2020, but it is reported by Windows Central that people at Microsoft are considering to release one of their new folding devices earlier than announced.

Windows Central wrote that multiple contacts have told them that SurfaceDuo may be available to purchase during this summer, the reason for this decision by Microsoft is because the hardware and software of the Surface Duo were almost finished. Microsoft already announced that Surface Duo will run on Android 10.

As we know, Android 10 was released way back in August 2019, and the hardware of Surface Duo was also reportedly done, Microsoft is currently focused on finalizing the top-level OS customizations and in-box app experiences specific to Surface Duo, Windows Central wrote that Mircosoft may release the device in limited quantities.

Another reason why Microsoft wants to release Surface Duo earlier than announced was, Microsoft may not want its users to think that this device was out-dated at the time of its release, because the leaked specs by Windows Central seem kinda outdated when compared to the latest devices released in 2020.

These are the supposed specs of Microsoft Surface Duo, Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, Snapdragon 855 seems to be the default for all Surface Duo variants. Windows Central notes that missing out on 5G in Surface Duo may affect Microsoft, because they note that by the end of next year, 5G will be a much more widespread thing.

Windows Central also highlights the interesting production history of Surface Duo, they say that the Production of Surface Duo was started way back in 2016 under the code name Andromeda, the plan of releasing the device in 2018 was changed when Microsoft decided to go with Android as its operating system instead of Windows.
